A Blog Makeover!

Take a peek around!
Things are different here at The Mrs!

A huge shout out to the oh so talented Jacy of Art By Jacy!
She did such a great job and has such amazing customer service skills!

My about me page has been updated and has a new look!

All the links you could possibly need are provided on the side bar!
I deleted Google Friend Connect {followers gadget} so all the ways to contact me and keep up with me can be found on the sidebar as well. I'm very active on facebook and consistently share my posts there, so that is the best way to keep up! Plus we have a fun comment game going on now, too!

There is also a "follow by email" option & a search box in the sidebar!

Feel free to add my new buttons!!!

How do you blog?

How do you blog?

How do you read other posts??

Do you use the old/traditional blogger page?

Do you browse in the new interface?

Do you use google reader?

How do Wordpress users read their blogs?

This is what I do....
www.blogger.com takes me to my home page that looks like this:

I obviously use the old interface. I have a hard time using the new one. I like it and understand it, but until they make me change (and I'm sure they will) I'm not gonna use it. It's cooler, it's sleeker, I just don't wanna use it. See... much cooler looking:

When I first log in I check my followers; it doesn't change like ever. Then I click on my stats and check my traffic sources. I note which blogs are sending the most viewers so that I link up to their page more often. I always get a giggle out of the search keywords that land hits on my blog. Like this one... What was this person looking for?

I then scroll down to the reader portion. I then (ctrl) click on all the posts I havent read. Sometimes (most of the time) my browser looks like this:

Then I look through the posts. I don't ALWAYS read all the text. I'm guilty. Most of the time, I scroll down and look at the pictures. If the pictures intrigue me, then I read the text (add pics to your posts, peeps). Do I read every post? No... I do have my must reads though. My all time #1 don't miss a post blog is def Sydney from The Daybook. She just had a baby boy and I drool over her story and her posts. Often times they are so simple, yet so captivating.

Do I comment? I go through phases. Sometimes, I'll comment on EVERYTHING clicking on several linky parties and comment vomiting on them. Other times, I just look. Don't you hate that? When people look, but don't say anything? Somedays I'll have over 400 views, with no comments. How's that? Anyways... So I make an effort to let people know I'm reading their business. Do you? You should! It makes bloggers feel good to see this in their inbox:

I even label them in my inbox for easy access when I get a little free time to reply!

Speaking of comments... Are you a no reply comment blogger? You shouldn't be. It's dreadful. When I get a comment, I reply. Even if it's just a "thanks for the comment!" I want my readers to know that I appreciate them taking the time to read and express their opinion. How do I do this? Simply hitting "reply" on the email I get telling me I have a comment. Unless you are a no reply comment blogger. Then I can't. Check your status now. (it's like an aids advertisement, lol).

Here's how you can relieve yourself of that dreaded status. Click here.

Do you reply to your readers comments? You should :) It makes them feel good!

Also, how do you follow blogs? The blogger followers gadget? Google friend connect? Email subscription?

I try and find folks who might be interested in giveaways, I promote my giveaways on facebook, and I enter my friends' awesome giveaways like this one (go enter NOW):

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I blog.

Liebster Award

I've been awarded the Liebster Blog award from Natassia of Nat's Knapsack!! I'm so honored! This award came on a day that I needed some super uplifting, and I'm proud to pass it on!

The Criteria: The Liebster Blog Award is meant to showcase bloggers who have fewer than 200 followers. This is all done in the spirit of pay-it-forward.

The Rules: You must mention and link to the person who awarded you with Liebster, and mention 5 other blogs with fewer than 200 followers who you think worthy of the Liebster!"

Amazing book.
Full of tips, ah-hahs, and duhs!!

I love the fact that there are tips from business owners and executives from etsy. This book is a must read for all of us who strive to make and sell our crafts.

Though, I do not have an online shop {yet} I hope to one day; I will be attending a craft fair in November

Guest Post && Tutorial: Tricia from I Heart Rock n Roll

Hello my lovely followers!
I'm vacationing this weekend in the
Smoky Mountains of Gatlinburg, TN
It is one of our most favorite places.
We even honeymooned there!!
While I am away, Tricia is here to entertain
you with her awesomeness!!

**************************************************************************************

Hi Fans of The Mrs! So glad to be joining you on this fine day!
My name is Tricia L and I am the face behind I Heart Rock n Roll (and my crafty things too).
Please feel free to come on over and rock with me anytime!
Here's a little background on me -

I am a 34 WAHM of two awesome kiddos and wiffey to Big Daddy {or Noah ;)}. I did have an office job until last year when we were blessed with Big Daddy's promotion allowing us to move to the beach and me to quit my job and pursue my dream of crafting for a living! LOVE YOU BIG DADDY! It has really be a whirlwind! I can't tell you how blessed we truly are to be right where we are at today!

But enough about me! So, when Megan asked for volunteers to guest blog I jumped on it and offered my services. Then it set in that I needed to come up with something! LOL I am still relatively new to blog land but didn't want to disappoint so I am offering up a fun {and affordable} tutorial!

It just so happens I am doing my first ever craft fair soon and I needed displays for my jewelry. I don't want to do the normal black velvet stands {not judging or talking them down at all}. I want to stand out and make an impression but I am short on cash and trying very hard to stick to a strict budget! So, I've taken to hitting local thrift stores for cool things to use! One thing I found was an empty wooden frame for 50 cents. I loved it - didn't know what I was going to do with it but I loved it just the same! Well, one of my bloggy bff's shared a post about a friend's show at the Queen Bee Market this year - what an amazing display! You have to go and check out her blog posting about her experience and display - Just.Lovely.Things. She also took pictures of other displays during the market which was so helpful! This is when I found what I would be doing with my empty frame!

I am going to make a Funky Chicken Wire Frame! Cool, right!?!
I don't know if she made hers or bought it but it is such an awesome idea!

Here is the list of items I used:
Empty Frame (50 cents)
Chicken Wire ($6 but if you want to make more you will have extra OR some of you might have access to spare wire)
Staple Gun & 1/4" staples ($12.50)
Wire cutters (Had on hand but if you don't they are so cheap at Walmart, Michaels, etc)
Paint (Had on hand but again you can pick a small tube of craft pain up for less than $1 and have some left over)
STEP 1 -
**I would suggest painting the frame first to avoid getting it on the wire unless it is already your desired color. I had alreay painted mine silver before deciding to make a tutorial.**
Roll the chicken wire out (kind of like wrapping paper) and lay the frame on it.

STEP 2 -
Using the wire cutters, cut around the frame as closely as possible. It does not have to be hidden just yet. You will be able to clean it up easily once it is stapled.
STEP 3 -
Roll up the remaining chicken wire and set aside.
Flip the frame over and place the chicken wire on top, where desired.
STEP 4 -
Carefully, staple down the chicken wire with the staple gun. I stapled every one so there would be no pop up wire which could result in injury.
STEP 5 -
Using the wire cutters, clip the excess wire off so none is sticking out and it is laying as flush to the fram as possible. You're done! :)
I may use mine for rings or necklaces. Just.Lovely.Things uses hers for hair clips! So neat!  Hope you enjoyed and if you tweak this or make one of your own please share it with us!
Hope you enjoyed and if you tweak this or make one of your own please share it with us!Thanks again for having me!
Peace, Love, & Rock n Roll - Tricia L

Saved from Bloggy Suicide!

I almost quit today.
I almost threw in the towel.
I reached out to Nichelle of Vintage Wanna Bee as an act of desperation.
She's big time, ya know?
I expected a response within the week, not immediately, but she responded within the hour.
She overwhelmed me with support and ideas to get my lil ole blog up and hopping.
Needless to say, we're bloggy BFFs now.
She's the bomb and makes cute stuffs too!
see how cute she is???

*****************************
Here is what I posted just before I wrote Vintage Wanna Bee:

I give up.
I'm no good at this.
No one reads this junk.
I mean who am I compared to Little Miss Momma, Vintage Wanna Be, and Amanda Lynne Designs?

I have no time to do this.
So I half way do it and end up looking like a 'tard.

I even got ambitious and created a facebook page.
It opened my eyes to the fact that no one cares.

I tried to post about style...
and wandered.
I tried to post about crafts...
and wandered.
I tried to post about my marriage...
and wandered.

I know who I am.
I am honest and open, but it's just not enough.
I don't have what it takes to make it here in "bloggy world."

So this is it.
I give up. I'm on my last limb of making things and diving into my lame excuse for a "shop."
I'm wasting my time.
I've sold nothing.
I'm apparently doing this completely wrong.

So if you're out there, and you read this, let me know.
'Cause I do this for myself, but I try to encourage and inspire.
I don't think I'm doing it.

I feel like I'm talking to no one.

A hobby I once loved, has overwhelmed me.
I need your support if "The Mrs" is to go on...
If you enjoy reading my junk, please tell me cause i'm about to let 'er go.

But this is not the case... Whew. Bad day, we defeated you!
